A Glimpse of Jesus Cares Learning Center of Tabuk, Inc. in 14 years.
- Janice Catalig

The Jesus Cares Learning Center of Tabuk, Inc. was conceived as a result of the Board Resolution No. 2006-01-01 made by the church leaders of the Free Believers In Christ Fellowship, Inc. Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga who envisioned to establish affordable & quality pre-school education in Tabuk City, Kalinga due to the growing population that is exhausting the capacity of the existing public schools and private schools nearby.

In early 2006, a school building was constructed within a land area of 1,250 square meters owned by the Free Believers in Christ Fellowship, Inc., Silao Street, Purok 2, Bulanao Norte, Tabuk City, Kalinga. It was enclosed with cemented fence, with a gate at the entrance.

Subsequently, Pre-school courses namely Nursery, Kindergarten, and Preparatory were opened on June 2006.

On August 28, 2006, the Board of Trustees requested for a Government Permit to operate Preschool Level. As a result, a Government Permit No. EED P- 011, s. 2006 was issued by the DepED – CAR for the School Year 2007-2008.

The Jesus Cares Learning Center of Tabuk, Inc. was granted serial Government Permits in favor of the renewal requests done each year since the first approval of operation.

Through the leadership of Principal Jennifer K. Chungalao, the Preschool Classes were approved with the issuance of a Government Recognition EED R-017, s. 2013 on May 31, 2013. In the same year, the school also applied for a Government Permit to operate Elementary Education Grades I, II, III. As a positive response to the application, the school was given a Government Permit EED P – 032, s. 2012 on April 15, 2013 for the operation of Grades I, II, and III for the school Year 2013-2014.

Because of the demands of education, the school envisioned to provide quality and affordable education for the prospective clientele. With the unending support of the Board of Trustees, teachers, non-Teaching personnel and the strong determination and fervent faith of the School Head, Jennifer K. Chungalao, the school was granted a Government Permit to operate Elementary Education Grades IV, V, and VI for School Year 2014-2015. The school complied with a yearly renewal of permit for the continuous operation of the Elementary courses.

As of the writing of this article, the school administration already worked out and processed the needed requirements for the acquisition of a Government Recognition to operate Elementary courses and and a Government Permit to offer Junior High School Grades for the next school year.

In 2015, a new school building was constructed near the entrance which is now utilized as Preschool room and Faculty room since the old Preschool building was demolished when the five-storey building was erected on June 2016.

The school rooms and facilities are included in the five-storey building plan which is recently under construction. The Elementary classes are currently utilizing some of the rooms located in the first and second floor of the new building.

The operation of the school has been guided by its vision to enlighten the learners into their outermost potential through education, to impart Christian knowledge and to instill in the young mind of the children the fear of God and love of the country; and its mission to prepare the child holistically by providing an enlightened, balanced form of child-centered education, encompassing the academic, cultural, emotional, social, and spiritual spheres, based on Christian ethics. We view the child as our greatest asset, with this in mind we are committed to provide a secure, disciplined environment for the development of the individual.

The current enrollment rate is higher than the previous years. Eighty percent of the total enrollment from Preschool to elementary are unchurched or not members of the Free Believers in Christ Fellowship, Inc. This is the ultimate motivation of the school administration in offering a special subject for Christian Education.

Over the years, Jesus Cares Learning Center of Tabuk, Inc. has strived to inculcate and strengthen Christian values through meaningful experiences and worthwhile co-curricular activities to enhance the growth and development of the child into a total person. Molding the young minds is a delicate task which the teachers consider as a call. The past years have been especially challenging for the school personnel, but their faithfulness, commitment and determination have continued to build on their earlier accomplishments.

Every school day faces a new challenge, a privilege and a commitment which can be enjoyable with the provision, guidance and grace of God, the Greatest Teacher.

The task of educating pupils through academics is not the sole concern of the Jesus Cares Learning Center of Tabuk, Inc. but also, to enlighten the learners into their outermost potential and to impart Christian knowledge and to instill in the young mind of the children the fear of God and love of the country.

To teach inside the classroom is like an everyday journey to a new world. Like a traveler, we meet different people with different behavior, different background, different interest, and with different stories to tell. It challenges the teachers to mingle with them, teach them, train them, and lead them the way they are supposed to go (Proverbs 22:6).

To handle a problem pupil is like a rare experience of traveling inside oneself. Imagine being in those shoes of the child? How does it feel to be left behind while others are excelling? Empathizing with the academically challenged child will bring out in the teacher the parental knowledge and understanding to find ways to bring him/her back right to the flight of flock.

Amidst all the challenges within a classroom setting, the teachers of JCLC strongly believe that direct teaching of the Word of God to the children will train them up in the way they should go. The Word of God that they will learn as young as they are will remain in their heart and as they grow old they will always be reminded of it. That’s why aside from the academic curriculum required by DepEd to be taught, the school offers Christian Education subject to the children wherein they are being taught about the teachings of God directly from the Bible. Furthermore, the school also offers special skills like musical instruments, singing, and dancing to enhance their learning potentials. As a manifestation of these, the JCLC pupils are given a monthly schedule to minister during the Sunday Services of Bulanao through dancing and singing exalting the Almighty God.
